Active RFID market grows apace

25 March 2014

Research conducted by IDTechEx shows that activity in RFID/RTLS systems, interrogators and tags provide a boost.

The report ‘RFID Forecasts, Players and Opportunities 2014-2014’ finds that the market, including tags, readers, software and services for passive and active RFID, will grow from from $7.88 billion in 2013 to $9.2 billion in 2014.

Passive UHF tags grew from just over 3billion tags in 2013 to 3.9billion tags in 2014. Although 2.48billion passive HF tags are projected to be sold in 2014, they will be at a much higher average sales price than passive UHF tags;  the money spent on HF tags will be almost 10 times more. The highest volume sector for passive UHF systems is retail apparel, with RFID penetrating only about 7% of the total addressable market for apparel in 2014.

IDTechEx expect that the RFID market will reach $30.2billion in 2024.
