Raspberry Pi sets SMART Group European Conference theme
The benefits of on-shoring is the conference theme setter for the SMART Group conference and exhibition in Thame, Oxford, in October.
Off shoring is no longer the automatic choice for manufacturing as the competitive advantage is swinging back to Europe, says the SMART Group. The conference is designed to show how to make a line as efficient as possible by yield improvement and appropriate material selection, but using techniques like concurrent engineering to win business. This theme also is set in the context of government initiatives in establishing manufacturing technology centres, working with research bodies on product development and shortening time to market.
The Raspberry Pi is a great example of this and the organisers have speakers from The Raspberry Pi Foundation and the UK manufacturing centre explaining how they accomplished this.
Among the presentations about solder and management systems, Gareth Jones, Sony UK Technology Centre will present: Raspberry Pi – the benefits of on-shoring on day one, and the Raspberry Pi foundation’s Pete Lomas will present a keynote on day two: Raspberry Pi - design and manufacture – a holistic approach.
The conference and exhibition will be held on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 October in Thame, Oxfordshire and is aimed at engineers and managers in electronics production, quality and design. The conference programme focuses on increasing understanding of material and process selection and control, as well as yield improvement.
