Samsung supplies SSD for ‘big data’ servers and storage
04 June 2013
A solid state drive (SSD), the SM843T, from Samsung is for use in high-performance servers and storage in next-generation data centres, including big data systems.
It offers up to 960Gbyte of memory storage for faster and more efficient big data systems and cloud computing environments. It is also claimed to offer the industry's most advanced performance level for SATA 6.0 SSDs with 98,000(sustained) random read IOPS (I/O operation/s) and 20,000 sequential Tbytes written.
Used in enterprise servers in data centres, the company believes that IT managers will see a performance gain of six times and energy savings of 30% over hard disk drives, improving system-level performance and energy efficiency. The SSD also protects the most recent data being processed from a sudden power interruption, for enhanced system reliability. It also achieves QoS (Quality of Service) level required by global cloud service providers and financial institutions.Through mass production of the SM843T, Samsung's competitive edge in theadvanced PC market has expanded into the high value-added enterprise SSD market with the company providing highest quality solutions to its customers.
