‘Green’ solid state drive offers up to 960Gbyte

29 May 2013

The SM843T from Samsung Electronics is designed for used in servers and storage in next-generation data centres.

Offering up to 960Gbyte of memory storage for faster and more efficient ‘big data’ systems and cloud computing environments, the drive is claimed to offer the industry's most advanced performance level for SATA 6.0 SSDs.It reaches up to 98,000 (sustained) random read IOPS (I/O operation/s) and 20,000 sequential Terabytes written).

It delivers a performance gain of a factor of six and energy savings of 30% compared to the widely-used hard disk drives, claims the company, to improve system-level performance and energy efficiency.
The drive protects the most recent data being processed from sudden power interruption. In addition to this power loss protection, it also achieves QoS (Quality of Service) level required by global cloud service providers and financial institutions.
