GlobalPress Summit 2013: Altera announces acquisition of assets of Danish FPGA-based OTN company, TPACK.

This transaction extends the company’s OTN portfolio, which follows its acquisition of intellectual property provider, Avalon in 2010.
The TPACK team are already familiar with the company’s products - the former Applied Micro Circuits subsidiary’s products use intellectual property based on Altera FPGAs. Misha Burich, CTO, Altera said “Every operation, from large networks to metropolitan networks, has different requirements. Different speeds are needed. Now we are able to offer 10Gbit/s in addition to the [Avalon-based] products of 100Gbit/s.”
The company is based outside of Copenhagen and the team there – mostly unchanged since acquired by Applied Micro Circuits – will be managed by Mark Dickinson, vice president System Solutions Engineering, Altera who also manages the Avalon group, based in Newfoundland, Canada.
Altera also announced its intention to introduce 55nm embedded Flash technology at the Summit in Santa Cruz, California.
The technology will result in a new family of high volume, low cost devices for the industrial and automotive markets. If the new generation of devices follows the company’s other low cost devices, it will consist of between four to six devices. Shipping is scheduled for 2014.
