Smart Li-Ion batteries have impedance tracking and fuel gauges for portable design functionality

Following the introduction of the pre-engineered CC2300 and CC3800 Li-Ion credit card, Accutronics has introduced the Entellion VR series of standard, smart Li-Ion batteries which also feature impedance tracking SMBus and SBS-compliant fuel gauges, five-LED charge indicators, a six-way connector interface and slide rails for easy insertion. All batteries have UN38.3 (transportation), IEC62133 and UL2054 (safety) approvals and are rugged in design.
The battery and charger design and manufacturing company works with, but independently of, cell manufacturers to select the right cell for each application, optimising capacity, rate capability, cycle life and thermal performance.

Rechargeable Li-Ion is increasingly used for portable devices as it has a higher gravimetric and volumetric energy density, lithium ion battery technology provides longer run times and lower weight compared to NiCad, Ni-MH and lead acid.

Embedded intelligent electronic systems allow batteries to manage their own charging, while on-board fuel gauges provide host equipment with accurate real time information.
