Kickstart your LCD display project with GPEG's new online tool
11 February 2013
Create your own custom-built LCD display with GPEG's unique online tool.
The free Kickstart programme has been developed as an easy to use sketch
tool that enables design engineers and commercial teams to instantly
visualise how the display will look.
Using a simple 'drag and drop' option, icons can be placed as and where you
want them to appear. Choose from GPEG's growing library of common fonts and
images or upload your own graphics to tailor the display to your personal
specifications.
Once the initial design is complete the display, which is controlled by a
KS480 smart driver, can be animated to create flashing and variable text, a
real-time clock and other front panel graphics.
The intelligent driver contains a set of built-in commands that can reduce
software development time and costs and ultimately the time taken to bring a
product to market. It also uses five times less power than a traditional
'dumb' driver chip.
GPEG is the first UK company to create such driver chips. CEO Nick How said:
"The option of a customised screen has been limited to high volume designs
until now. Kickstart’s low cost of development enables anyone to deploy a
unique customised display in almost any volume.”
Fully featured development kits enable design engineers to explore all the
intelligent functions and advantages that the KS480 driver delivers, saving
further cost and software development time while custom hardware is created.
Uniquely, the development kit can be connected to both a free PC development
tool and an online control application that allows you to see and adapt how
the display works even if you have no previous programming skill or
knowledge. Through the use of these simple tools a full set of program code
is created on screen to run the display, enabling engineers to simply copy
and paste the code into their projects.
Accessible for even small, one-off product developments, GPEG can produce 10
samples for a fixed £800 payment.
