Murata now the owner of a SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2

15 January 2013

In its search to uncover one of the oldest working models of the company’s signature M.O.L.E. thermal profiling technology, ECD launched a two-month contest among its customers.

After numerous entries from around the globe, the winner of the oldest M.O.L.E. challenge was announced early this year.  The owner of the M.O.L.E., built in 1987, is Murata Power Solutions, a Massachusetts-based power systems manufacturer.

The entry was submitted by Ron Souza, Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Murata, who was certain the 25-year-old M.O.L.E. stood a good chance of winning. “I was pretty confident we’d be in the running,” says Souza. “And, I was thrilled when we won.  This M.O.L.E. has been an absolute powerhouse – working consistently well for over 25 years.  But, I am really looking forward to using the latest ECD profiling technology, the SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2, which was our prize for winning the contest.”

ECD’s SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2 is the industry standard for exceptional profiling performance.  A yield-enhancing, time-saving and cost-reducing system, the SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2 offers expanded features that make thermal process measurement and analysis immensely simple and effective.  Data storage of up to 96 profiles, instant profile validation and “waste no runs” technology, are but a few features of the SuperM.O.L.E.

“Our facility has three production lines that run very high-mix, NPI assemblies for DC to DC converters, and error-free thermal profiling is critical to a good end product,” notes Souza.  “We have boards of varying thicknesses and sizes and a wide range of component dimensions with different thermal mass, so profiling each new product and then running periodic verification ensures that we consistently deliver high yields.  ECD’s thermal profiling technology, superior customer service and excellent training have been instrumental in the success of our soldering processes.”

Now, with a new SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2 in hand, Murata plans to retire its 25-year-old model.  “We’ll keep the contest winner as a back-up,” says Souza.  “It has served us very well; we’ve had zero issues with the equipment and it’s paid for itself many times over.  If past experience is any indication, I’m certain the SuperM.O.L.E. Gold 2 will deliver exceptional performance and ROI as well!”
