10 years: future, innovation and know-how
21 February 2012
The embedded world Exhibition & Conference 2012 is the world’s largest international trade fair and congress event for all things connected with Embedded Systems.
Right on time for its tenth edition it has set a new record. From 28th February to 1st March 2012 around 900 international companies will be presenting their products in increased exhibition space. With Halls 1, 2, 4, 4A and 5, the rapidly growing event is therefore occupying new and larger ‘work rooms’.
The embedded world Conference and the electronic displays Conference will impress with a total of around 300 experts’ lectures. International speakers will provide first-class know-how from all areas of Embedded System development and on display technologies at first hand.
“10 years of embedded world means 10 years of the international Number 1 Embedded Community meeting place. For 10 years the event has been the highlight of the worldwide trade fair calendar and in 2012 is expanding further: the number of exhibiting companies is experiencing double-figure growth this year”, says a delighted Alexander Mattausch, Exhibition Director embedded world Exhibition&Conference, NürnbergMesse. “The dynamism of the sector is breath-taking. Its products are setting the pace for innovations across all industries and sectors. At embedded world companies from 35 countries form the entire spectrum of Embedded Systems. That is therefore unique worldwide.”
Energy efficiency and M2M showing the way to the future
Energy optimization and communication are the central themes that extend to all product segments at embedded world. On the one hand hardware and software manufacturers as well as the suppliers of tools and services are presenting innovative approaches aimed at the reduction of energy consumption. On the other, the theme area of Machine-to-Machine-Communication (M2M) is the focal point. With the M2M-Area in Halls 4 and 5, embedded world comprehensively covers this continuing sector trend.
But communication also plays a key role in connection with Cloud-Computing in the Embedded sector, because Cloud-Computing produces features through the merging of individual embedded components, which the individual elements do not possess. Parallel to this, the theme of M2M-Communication will be discussed at the embedded world Conference. The session on the theme is being organized by the Computer&AUTOMATION trade medium in cooperation with the M2M-Alliance.
embedded world Conference 2012: top-ranking congress programme For the 10th time the embedded world Conference is the meeting place for all Embedded system developers worldwide and thus the most important experts’ forum for innovations and ideas. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Sturm, HTWK Leipzig (University of Applied Science), and Chairman of the embedded world Advisory Board, is looking forward to the 10th edition of the sector’s meeting place: “At the embedded world Conference first-class speakers will enter into direct dialogue on a level playing field with the participants. Here those themes will be discussed, which play a key role in the Embedded industry. In the areas Hardware, Software and Tools the conference offers practically-orientated solution examples and well-established perspectives.” The focal points of the trade congress include ARM-Cortex architectures, Multi-core components and current security solutions along with themes such as “Managing Embedded System Development and Life Cycle”, “Software Development and Debug Methods” and the area of Internet Technology and M2M. First-class specialist lectures delivered by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christof Paar (Ruhr-University Bochum), Dr. Bruce Powel Douglass (IBM), David Kleidermacher and Greg Davis (Green Hills Software) are representative examples of almost 250 lectures presented by renowned specialists. They promise know-how at first hand and insights into the Embedded system trend of tomorrow.
A further highlight is the presentation of projects conducted by the European technology and research platform ARTEMIS, which provides a deep insight into, and look ahead to everything that is possible and expected in future with Embedded Systems.
The embedded world Conference will be held for the first time in the larger facilities of the NürnbergConvention Center East and thus once again in the immediate vicinity of the trade fair itself.

Mike Muller is a genuine visionary and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at ARM Ltd. In his Keynote address Muller will provide the Embedded Community with an answer to the question “Low-power Embedded Design – What Next?”. On the first day of the event, 28th February, at 13:00 hrs, Muller will show what the Embedded Systems of tomorrow will bring us and present his vision for the sector. The Keynote is freely accessible for all trade visitors at embedded world.
The 2012 electronic displays Conference is presenting itself at a high, specialist level. “From a large number of outstanding entries we have once again been able to put together a high-quality, discerning programme with over 40 lectures which the congress participants can look forward to”, explains Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Blankenbach, Hochschule Pforzheim, Chairman of the Congress Advisory Board. “The creme de la creme of the national and international research and development community will be sharing their know-how at the electronic displays Conference and presenting the latest status of Display-development.” The speakers include outstanding researchers such as Dr. Jan Birnstock (Novaled AG). In his Keynote on the theme “Current status and future trends of active matrix OLED displays” he will be focusing attention on the future of electronic displays. The OLED expert and his team are familiar with the trends in the advanced display technologies market. The Novaled founders, Dr. Jan Blochwitz-Nimoth (Novaled AG) and Prof. Karl Leo (Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems - IPMS), conference Keynote 2011), recently received the German Future Prize from the hands of the Federal President in recognition of the industrial implementation of trailblazing research results.
In 11 sessions, experts’ lectures will provide information on the areas of display technologies, hard and software for controlling them, along with the concept, realization and application of display full-systems across the whole spectrum of current industry trends. The highlights are formed by six Keynote lectures which will shed light on important future schemes such as OLEDs, Automotive Displays and printed Displays. Other sessions will be concerned with Human Machine Interface (HMI), Graphical User Interface (GUI), display systems, display-control and Electronic Paper technologies. In Hall 1 the “Display Area” will provide the opportunity for a live experience and demonstration of the Display new products and innovations.
