Defining changes of RoHS

28 October 2011

A message from the SMART Group Technical Committee reveals that the European Commission (DG Environment) has launched a study on measures to be implemented and additional impact assessment with regard to scope changes, pursuant to the new RoHS Directive.

It is the objective of this study to conduct an impact assessment with regards to scope changes between the RoHS II COM proposal and the final text of the Directive; to define rules for complying with RoHS concentration limits; and to assess needs for further scope amendments.

The UK government is urging all stakeholders to make their views known to the Commission through this study, especially if there is evidence for any additional exclusions to scope from the ‘open scope catch-all’ category 11.

To find out more, please visit the Commission consultant's project website where the first stakeholder consultation document is now available, and an opportunity to comment on the study content and to make suggestions is offered.

The SMART Group say that it would be helpful to send a copy of any information you submit to SMART and to the UK government at BIS, by contacting info@smartgroup.org and env.regs@bis.gsi.go.uk.
