Chomerics Europe has launched two new electrically conductive acrylic coatings that are designed for application onto plastic housings to provide EMI / RFI shielding.

CHO-SHIELD 2040 is a silver-filled material that provides superior shielding performance of >75 dB and CHO-SHIELD 2044 uses a nickel filler to achieve >60 dB shielding effectiveness (both between 80 MHz and 10 GHz).

CHO-SHIELD 2040 and 2044 are durable and provide high levels of abrasion resistance making them suitable for use in equipment that is likely to be operated in harsh environments. Able to provide EMI / EFI shielding, anti-static protection and surface grounding, the coatings facilitate the design of a wide range of electronic products and equipment in ABS, PC/ABS and many other types of plastic enclosures.

Both materials have a robust formulation that allows them to be applied using either low or high volume paint application processes using conventional paint spraying equipment. The coatings have good adhesion properties and are tack-free 30 minutes after application and fully dry after 24 hours, helping to minimise production bottlenecks; elevated temperatures (65ºC) allow full drying times to be reduced to around just one hour. Continuous operating temperature range for the new coatings is -40ºC to +85ºC.
