Panasonic Corporation and Panasonic Corporation of Latin America (PLA) have announced their Eco Ideas Declaration for the region.

By adopting the declaration, they aim to become the number one green innovation company in the electronics industry in Latin America as part of Panasonic's group-wide commitment to taking the lead in bringing forward green innovations.

As a company, Panasonic is striving to become the number one with a global perspective by 2018; the 100th anniversary of its foundation. To achieve this goal, it is pursuing its Eco Ideas for Lifestyles by promoting sustainable and comfortable green lifestyles as well as Eco Ideas for Business-styles, with aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations to a maximum extent and spread technologies and ideas that are brought forth through reduction efforts.

The declaration in Latin America followed those adopted in Europe in October 2008 and in Asia Pacific in June 2009. Panasonic has been leading environmental initiatives that are tailored to the local conditions in these regions. The pledge in Latin America underscores Panasonic's commitment to offering a green lifestyle to people in the Latin American countries as well as pursuing a green business-style in its business activities.

"There is a greater awareness of environmental issues in Latin America, the region rich in nature such as rain forests in Amazon and Central America," said PLA Chief Executive Officer Hidetsugu Uji. "To help conserve the natural environment, Panasonic pledges to reduce CO2 emissions by 10% from manufacturing and double the sales of our industry-leading environment-conscious products. We will also encourage Panasonic employees to lead the conservation efforts in co-operation with local communities."

Uji further outlined the goals for Latin America under the declaration:
• Eco Ideas for Lifestyles: Panasonic aims to double the regional sales of Superior Green Products by March 2013 in comparison with the level of the fiscal year ended March 2010. Superior Green Products, internally certified by Panasonic, are those that have achieved the industry's top environmental performance in terms of energy saving, effective utilisation of resources and the management of chemical substances.
• Eco Ideas for Business-styles: Panasonic seeks to cut CO2 emissions by 10% in the region by March 2013 compared to the levels of the fiscal year ended March 2006. It will also designate an Eco Ideas Factory in the region by March 2012 as a model factory to implement Panasonic's environmental strategy that is focused on the two key themes: Eco Ideas for Lifestyles and Eco Ideas for Business-styles. The factory will play a pivotal role in spreading Panasonic's Eco Ideas through promoting participation in environmental communications and eco activities by its employees and the local community. Panasonic employees in Latin America will contribute to local communities by taking initiatives in driving environment-conscious and awareness activities together with the residents.
