Samsung Electronics’ NaviBot vacuum cleaner ushers in a new age of household appliances
'Doing the robot' could soon refer to houshold chores instead of dancing.
Samsung Electronics’ NaviBot vacuum cleaner ushers in a new age of household appliances. This small but powerful device is capable of moving in complete autonomy over many different kinds of surface – delivering a strong cleaning performance; even on carpets and rugs.
Featuring a Visionary Mapping System, NaviBot is driven by a level of intelligence never seen before. Two CPU control chips run the brain behind an innovative intelligent navigation program, allowing the NaviBot to see your home and remember where it is at all times in relation to objects and the charging base.
A small integrated camera takes 30 photos per second of the room. Using these images, NaviBot creates a virtual map of the home, identifying the exact location of obstacles such as furniture and interior decorations. Calculating the quickest and safest route to take, it is then able to clean the house in a short time and with little effort.
If one charge is not enough to finish cleaning a particular zone, NaviBot automatically returns to its docking station without losing its way and fully recharges within two hours, and is then able to restart to clean from the exact location where it left off. It has 38 sensors to ensure more reliable cleaning and to avoid problems such as falling down stairs, severe collisions, and getting entangled in cables.
Featuring five different programs (Auto, Spot, Max, Edge clean, or Manual Mode), NaviBot also features the option to delay the start of the cleaning program which means users are able to clean their homes without even being present.
Virtual Guard creates an invisible screen across the room, allowing the user to choose between two helpful functions; “Virtual Fence” mode screens off an area that should not be cleaned (such as an open fire place, or a wet bathroom floor), and “Virtual Guide” mode sets the order of cleaning the space, causing a focused room-by-room approach rather than treating all accessible space as one room. Furthermore, brushes at either side of the device help to achieve a faster and better cleaning performance, especially for cleaning right to the edges. There is also a Sweeping Blade that takes over after the Power Brush has done its job, which helps to collect even more dirt and debris.
