Smartcard Security Platform

20 June 2024

The STeID Java Card smartcard platform from STMicroelectronics looks to further progress the proliferation of electronic identity (eID) technology and facilitate the implementation of more sophisticated security mechanisms.

It can be used in conjunction with numerous secure ICs. Support for near field communication (NFC) specifications means it may be used in relation to providing a digital identity for users via their smartphone handsets and other mobile equipment. The platform is based on the company’s STeID JC operating system (OS), which is compliant with the Java Card 3.0.5 card application framework and the Global Platform 2.3.1 card management architecture. It is certified to common criteria EAL 6+ evaluation assurance level standard.
