Advanced Contact Technology Shows Green Credentials

Delivering ultra-efficient energy transfer with minimal losses, the Hypertac Green Connect contact pins, from Smiths Interconnect, are intended for use in modern battery system installations across a broad range of industry sectors.

They are based on the company’s hyperboloid high-power contact technology, where socket wires have been angled to form a hyperboloid-shaped, elastic and conductive sleeve. When the mating pin enters the corresponding socket, the sleeve expands around it - providing many lines of electrical contact with the mating pin, rather than just a few ‘high spots’. The upshot is that customers are presented with a robust interconnection solution that is capable of efficiently handling 500A continuous current levels. The low contact resistance exhibited means that the build-up of heat is much less, even at such high currents - resulting in smaller contact assembly sizes and greater operational reliability.
