Embedded Flash Data Storage

28 April 2024

Aimed at use in smartphone handsets and other forms of consumer electronics hardware, the latest versions of the KIOXIA Universal Flash Storage (UFS) embedded flash memories have just been unveiled.

The UFS Ver. 4.0 devices are supplied in 256GByte, 512GByte and 1Terabyte storage capacities, despite being housed in compact packaging (with 9mm x 13mm footprint dimensions). They rely on the company’s proprietary BiCS FLASH 3D stacking technology. A 15% improvement in sequential write, a 50% improvement in random write and a 30% improvement in random read speeds are all exhibited. MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0 interfacing are supported.

"KIOXIA’s UFS technology is the 'racehorse equivalent' of the company's family of embedded storage devices. With our next-generation UFS 4.0, we have doubled the random write and increased random reads by 30%," states Axel Störmann, VP for Embedded Memory at KIOXIA Europe. "As development continues, we are proud to help accelerate mobile communication."
