Ensuring Data Storage Integrity & Preventing Potential Losses

22 April 2024

Tuxera’s Persistence Manager is an add-on to its exFAT file system. It enables augmented data resilience on Android and Linux-based embedded systems needing to carry out continuous video recording - such as drones, industrial imaging equipment, data loggers, vehicle dashcams, etc.

Persistence Manager safeguards against potential loss of data should an unexpected cessation of power occur. Using it, engineers can decide how much data is sent to the cache prior to it being placed on the attached storage media. The time interval before it is moved from the cache to the storage media can also be configured.

“Normally, recording devices save data to volatile memory. If the device abruptly loses power, such as from being unplugged or from a hardware defect, the data in the process of being recorded has not had time to flush to disk and is lost forever,” Teemu Sivonen, Tuxera’s Product Manager, explains. “Tuxera Persistence Manager ensures that if the recording device unexpectedly loses power, as much data as possible is saved and committed to storage.”
