Compact Power-Efficient Highly-Integrated Wireless SiP

23 February 2024

The nRF9151 is the latest addition to Nordic Semiconductor’s series of low-power wireless system-in-package (SiP) solutions for use in cellular IoT implementations.

This unit showcases the company’s in-house expertise in relation to RF front-end, system-on-chip (SoC) and power management technology. It represents a 20% reduction in PCB utilisation compared to the prior nRF91 series SiPs that it now supersedes. Through its support for the 700MHz to 2200MHz frequency band it can deal with LTE-M (CAT-M1) and NB-IoT transmissions, plus DECT NR+ transmissions via the 1.9GHz frequency band. It has Class 5 20dBm output power, as well as the nominal Class 3 23dBm power. Arm TrustZone security capabilities are included. The SiP is fully software and tools compatible with other products in the Nordic portfolio, namely the nRF9161 and nRF9131 - thereby offering engineers a seamless upgrade path if needed.

“Our decision to develop the nRF9151 stems from a deep understanding of market demands and the need for solutions that seamlessly address the challenges faced by our customers,” Kjetil Holstad, EVP Strategy & Product Management, explains. “With the nRF9151, we aim to fill a crucial gap in the market, streamlining the development process, and reducing both power consumption and footprint. This strategic addition to our cellular IoT portfolio confirms our dedication to providing cutting-edge cellular IoT solutions and our continuous drive to stay ahead."
