High-Frequency Integrated ACF Controller Packed with Key Functionality

The SZ1200 from Silanna Semiconductor is an advanced active clamp flyback (ACF) controller with multiple facets.

It supports elevated levels of conversion efficiency across the entire 90VAC to 265VAC input voltage range, with >93% being attained at low line. The device incorporates adaptive digital PWM control functionality, with a 700V primary gallium-nitride (GaN) field effect transistor FET, an ultra-high voltage (UHV) X capacitor (X-Cap) discharge circuit, an active clamp driver, plus a start-up regulator all being encompassed. The company’s proprietary OptiMode digital control architecture means that the operating mode is adjusted on a cycle-by-cycle basis - in order for maximum efficiency levels to be achieved. It also helps to mitigate electromagnetic interference (EMI), improve dynamic load regulation, etc. Over-temperature, over-voltage, over-current and short circuit protection mechanisms are all included. The controller is supplied in an 8mm x 7mm footprint QFN package. It will be on display at Silanna partners stands during the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) next week (26th to 29th February, Long Beach, California).
