Wireless Transceivers for Cable-Free Connectivity

22 February 2024

Presenting engineers with a cost-effective means for dispensing with the need for cabling, the ST60A3H0 and ST60A3H1 transceiver ICs from STMicroelectronics can make consumer electronics equipment and peripherals more streamlined and convenient to use.

They operate in the 60GHz frequency band and provide eUSB2, I2C, SPI, UART and GPIO tunnelling. When transmitting/receiving in eUSB mode 130mW of power is drawn and just 90mW during UART, GPIO and I2C usage. While inactive they only consume 23µW. Supplied in a 3mm x 4mm footprint VFBGA package, the ST60A3H1 has an integrated antenna. Conversely, the ST60A3H0 is intended for external antenna connection and is housed in smaller (2.2mm x 2.6mm footprint) package as a result. These ICs are applicable in relation to digital cameras, wearable devices, portable data storage units, gaming consoles, industrial hardware, etc.
