More Environmentally Sound Laptop

Tackling the growing e-waste problem and the ecological damage that this is causing, Infineon has contributed to Framework Computer’s efforts to produce an upgradeable and repairable laptop computer.

The Framework Laptop 16 has a modular arrangement that makes it easy to replace different parts of the system, rather than getting rid of the whole thing. Consequently the lifespan of the model is far greater than for conventional laptops, so less e-waste is produced. Featuring Infineon’s EZ-PD CCG8t dual/single port USB-C PD controller IC with extended power range (EPR) support, it is able to deliver 180W and 240W USB-C charging.

“The EZ-PD CCG8 has enabled immense flexibility, not only supporting the latest USB-PD 3.1 standard, but also making our unique Expansion Card system possible, allowing end user customisation of ports,” states Nirav Patel, Framework’s founder.

“Decarbonisation is a goal we work towards every day at Infineon. I am very delighted that thanks to our solution, Framework offers a product to its customers which is not only high-performing but also supports a greener tomorrow,” adds Ganesh Subramaniam, Senior Vice President of Wired Connectivity Solutions at Infineon.
