Infineon & VMAX Partner on EV Powertrain/Charging Systems
10 February 2024
Far Eastern power electronics system producer VMAX is using the latest Infineon CoolSiC hybrid discrete solutions in its 6.6kW on-board chargers (OBCs) for electric vehicles (EVs).
These devices feature the semiconductor manufacturer’s proprietary TRENCHSTOP 5 fast-switching IGBTs alongside its 5th generation zero reverse recovery CoolSiC Schottky diodes. They exhibit ultra-low low switching losses at switching speeds >50kHz, as well as industry-leading thermal characteristics too. Consequently, they are highly effective in addressing the need for elevated levels of power density. The Schottky diode incorporated into each hybrid discrete means that superior resilience to surges and transients is witnessed, thereby ensuring ongoing reliability.
“We are proud to choose Infineon's CoolSiC Hybrid device in our next-generation OBC, achieving higher reliability, stability, improved performance, and power density. This deepens our already strong partnership with Infineon and drives technological application innovation through close collaboration, working together to promote the thriving development of new energy vehicles,” notes Jinzhu Xu, Chief Engineer of the R&D Department at VMAX.
As Robert Hermann, Infineon’s VP for Automotive High Voltage Chips & Discretes, adds; "Together, we will continue to drive e-mobility advancements, providing efficient solutions that meet the requirements of the industry in terms of performance, quality and system cost."
