Infineon & VMAX Partner on EV Powertrain/Charging Systems

Far Eastern power electronics system producer VMAX is using the latest Infineon CoolSiC hybrid discrete solutions in its 6.6kW on-board chargers (OBCs) for electric vehicles (EVs).

These devices feature the semiconductor manufacturer’s proprietary TRENCHSTOP 5 fast-switching IGBTs alongside its 5th generation zero reverse recovery CoolSiC Schottky diodes. They exhibit ultra-low low switching losses at switching speeds >50kHz, as well as industry-leading thermal characteristics too. Consequently, they are highly effective in addressing the need for elevated levels of power density. The Schottky diode incorporated into each hybrid discrete means that superior resilience to surges and transients is witnessed, thereby ensuring ongoing reliability.
