Element Makes Major Investment in Consumer Electronics Test Lab

17 December 2023

So as to support its OEM/CEM customers with development of the latest consumer electronic products, Element has ploughed £8 million into establishing a new UKAS 17025-accredited connected technologies lab near Guildford.

Referred to as Element Surrey Hills, this purpose-built facility covers an area of 25,000 square feet. It is kitted out with a broad variety of advanced instrumentation. The staff situated there will conduct test activities in relation to ensuring products meet the relevant electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, as well as determining wireless performance levels and carrying out specific absorption rate (SAR) testing to protect users’ health. In line with the company's STEM objectives, Element has also partnered with universities close to the site - so that engineering students can get valuable training about industry standards, regulatory procedures and best test practices.

“Consumer electronics are becoming extremely complex and they are required to meet ever changing global regulatory requirements. With this new laboratory, we can offer the best testing facilities to enable the latest technologies to come to market, be sold, and used across the world, supporting the increased rate of innovation amongst product developers. We proudly support manufacturers across the full product life-cycle, from R&D to launch,” Matt Hopkinson, states Element’s EVP for EMEAA.
