Induction-Based Position Sensor Interface Devices

Intended for use in vehicle x-by-wire steering and throttle/accelerator/brake pedal mechanisms, the MLX90513 inductive sensor interface IC from Melexis is capable of attaining high degrees of positioning accuracy.

Making induction-based position sensing more accessible, and broadening its potential usage, this device delivers ±0.1% full-scale accuracy in linear arrangements (up to 30cm in length) and ±0.36° accuracy in rotary configurations (over a complete 360° range). Industry-leading stray field immunity can be benefited from (comfortably meeting ISO 11452-8 requirements) and the device is not affected by thermal drift either. Another important differentiator is its responsiveness - with fast-acting control loops thus being possible to establish. A sub-20µs latency is exhibited, which can be further reduced via programming.

The MLX90513 is supplied in a compact TSSOP-16 package. Digital signal processing is integrated for enhanced performance. Versatile output interfacing covers analogue ratiometric, PWM, SENT and SPC, so that various different application scenarios can be attended to. It is aligned with ASIL C functional safety requirements.
