HVDC Contactors Feature Elevated Levels of Isolation & Extended Operational Lifespan

Addressing the electric vehicle (EV), energy storage and solar generation sectors, Durakool has just extended its CHV series of ceramic HVDC contactors, as well as its pre-charge resistor product portfolio.

The pre-charge/discharge contactors can now handle current levels reaching 60A and can switch voltages up to 1500VDC. The sealed ceramic arc chamber within each contactor means that enhanced isolation is delivered when compared to conventional epoxy sealed DC contactors. The compatible power resistors that accompany these contactors have ratings going all the way to 2800W.

As Ricardo Esquinazi, Brand Manager at Durakool explains; “The CHV contactor’s non-polarised terminals make it possible for electric vehicles to provide stand-by power back to the charger. They also enable the contactor in an EV to break high DC currents whilst using regenerative braking, resulting in longer service life and higher ‘in application’ reliability.” “Our HVDC contactors protect vehicles, their occupants and emergency service personnel by providing isolation of the high voltage battery from the electronic drive system upon vehicle impact and when vehicles are not in use,” he concludes.
