Power Efficient Non-Isolated Flyback Switcher ICs

16 September 2023

Targeting use in small open-frame power supply units (PSUs), the LinkSwitch-XT2SR multi-output off-line switcher ICs have just been debuted by Power Integrations.

These SO-16 packaged constant-voltage, non-isolated devices are capable of delivering 15W of output at 230VAC, with efficiency levels above 90% being attained even in compact implementations or light load situations. Their no-load consumption is under 5mW, meaning that they comfortably meet the European Union’s Energy-Related Products (ErP) directive for standby power consumption. They deliver 250mW to the load within the 300mW ErP allowance - thus enabling design engineers of household appliances and industrial systems to operate a greater proportion of system functionality in standby mode. As a consequence, they can augment user experiences, as well as ensuring that energy is conserved. The built-in synchronous rectifier driver and auxiliary driver found in each device results in reduced overall component count and smaller board real estate allocation. A fully over-temperature protection mechanism is included to maintain operational longevity.

According to Silvestro Fimiani, Power Integrations’ Senior Product Marketing Manager; “Improving efficiency in small power supplies and at light load is crucial considering the number and variety of applications that are continuously connected to the power grid,” stated. “I expect to see LinkSwitch-XT2SR ICs used broadly in small appliances and in the expanding range of IoT-enabled home and building automation applications.”
