Additional Height Choices for Multi-Directional Spring Contacts

24 August 2023

4 new height options are now offered for Harwin’s widely-used multi-directional spring contact products, meaning that an increased breadth of customer board spacing requirements can be met.

The compact, low-profile S1921-46R and S1931-46R have free heights of 4.00mm and 5.50mm respectively. These are complemented by the taller S1981-46R (with an 8.50mm height) and S1991-46R (which is 10.00mm high) options. Manufactured from a copper alloy, each has a 14A current rating.

Though there are various spring contacts available that are suitable for vertical compression scenarios, ones that enable horizontal operation are considerably rarer. By delivering multi-directional operation, the Harwin components offer a valuable differentiator - addressing engineers’ need for greater degrees of flexibility in their high density electronic designs. Exhibiting 5,000 mating cycles durability, these components are suitable for use in communications modules, consumer electronics equipment, industrial control/monitoring systems, measurement instrumentation and numerous other contexts. They can be employed for signal transfer, low level power delivery, plus enclosure grounding tasks.

“Our multi-directional spring contacts provide a much more flexible method for connecting PCBs to accommodate different arrangements,” notes Ryan Smart, Harwin’s VP of Product. “Since their initial introduction, we received many customer requests to develop more compact spring contacts, with smaller footprints and lower profiles, as well as taller options. This means our customers can meet a broader spectrum of application criteria.”
