Simulator App for Generating Effective Battery Test Models

22 August 2023

Version 2.11.0 of the Keithley KickStart battery simulator app from Tektronix features numerous functional enhancements that will be of benefit to engineers conducting battery testing activities.

Via its use, various different battery models can be simulated, in order that detailed battery cycle tests may then be performed. The app has the ability to support the 2400 Graphical Series source measure units (SMUs), as well as the 2600B Series SMUs. There is scope for up to 8 instruments to be controlled.

The app is applicable to the battery testing of consumer wireless equipment, automotive powertrains and industrial systems. The need to include a 2380 electronic load for battery model generation or 2281S battery simulator hardware can be avoided. Consequently time, engineering resource and financial outlay are all markedly lowered.

“The one-box, no code aspects of this iteration of the Keithley KickStart software battery simulator application makes it possible for our customers to effortlessly generate battery models, simulate and cycle test batteries from the convenience of a PC-based software,” notes Frank Mammana, Keithley Product Manager. “This state-of-the-art application yields real-time table and graph views that have been created for instant data visualisation and collection, showcasing dynamic and static battery models of battery VOC, Vt, SOC, ESR, current, and capacity. These features will save our customers precious time and manual effort while enabling additional accuracy and visualisation.”
