Design Engineering Expo 2022 logo
With innovation at its core, Design Engineering Expo 2022 is the perfect place for forward thinking design engineering professionals to gain insight into new technologies, learn how to improve efficiencies & gain inspiration for ideas they can implement into their workplace, to put them ahead of their competitors & form part of their future strategy.
Taking place as part of Manufacturing & Engineering Week, a new two-day event celebrating the best of UK manufacturing and engineering excellence, Design Engineering Expo will provide a focused environment where the UK’s design engineering community can meet the suppliers delivering the latest tech to drive efficiencies and propel the future of design engineering in the UK. The event will feature exhibitors and experts showcasing a wide range of products and services, from design services, electronics and embedded design through to test & measurement.
A variety of exhibitions, seminars and workshop events will also provide a forum for sourcing the most innovative solutions and materials to improve process efficiency and optimise design strategy.
Design Engineering Expo is sponsored by Wurth Elektronik eiSOS, a leading manufacturer of electronic and electromechanical components in Europe, whose wide-ranging product portfolio includes EMC components, RF inductors and LTCC, transformers, power modules and LEDs. Operating in over 43 countries and with 16 production facilities around the world, Wurth is well placed to deliver components anywhere across the globe.
James East, General Manager UK & Ireland at Wurth says: “We’re always on the lookout for new events and exhibitions to take part in and so when we heard about Design Engineering Expo, we naturally wanted to be involved. It’s an exciting new event which is going to bring some new things to the table, so we were thrilled to sign up as a lead sponsor.
“What we want from this event is to have as much face-to-face interaction with our customers as possible. As a company, we pride ourselves on the service levels we can provide to people we supply, and meeting in person to discuss new topics or challenges is one of the most important ways we do this. After the struggle of the last couple of years, to get back in front of people again is the most important thing for us!”
Something for everyone
Featuring case studies from companies that have implemented some of the latest ground-breaking technologies to optimise their business, and a programme of CPD accredited conferences and workshops which will educate design engineering professionals on how to tackle some of engineering’s biggest challenges and optimise their efficiency, this event is a great opportunity for anyone looking to explore the latest innovations in the world of engineering. There will also be a special challenge built around the famous 1980s Great Egg Race television show which you will not want to miss!
Conferences
With some of the leading players in engineering solutions attending Design Engineering Expo 2022, the event offers a full calendar of seminars set to inspire design engineers to tackle some of the biggest challenges they are facing in their roles. Seminar topics include:
• The UK National Space Strategy, with a focus on the latest launch technologies
• Zero emissions air services - a greener way to solve the challenges we face
• A technical look into designing for speed
• Should automation be seen as an evolution or revolution?
• Designing for the circular economy
• Using design thinking to envision a better way of working
• A case study showcasing the world’s first methane powered tractor
Workshops
Take part in a selection of workshops which will address some of the key issues that industrial businesses are set to face in 2022 and beyond. See how the latest innovative technologies have helped other businesses optimise their operations and learn how they could benefit your workplace too. Workshop topics include: Thermal Management Solutions and Implementation; Cutting Edge Sustainable Product Development; Using Design to Ensure You Are Relevant, Competitive & Doing the Right Thing; and a Master Class in Digital Sensors.
Exhibitions
Visit stands from some of the most innovative and forward-thinking companies within the world of design engineering. See live demonstrations which really bring the latest technology to life and learn what the latest innovations can do for your business. Exhibitors include Omron Electrics, Photronix, MiniTec UK and Cambridge Industrial Design.
Digital sessions
If COVID-19 taught us anything, it is how useful digital technology can be for business. This year, supplementing the in-person elements of the event, Manufacturing & Engineering Week 2022 will offer a selection of online session on topics impacting the industry hosted by major players in the sector, including Juergen Maier CBE who is Chair of the Digital Catapult, co-Chair of Made Smarter and serves on the Industrial Strategy Council which advises the UK Government on Industrial Strategy. Delegates can register for access to these webinars and watch them on-demand at a time that is convenient to them.
Innovation Zone
With innovation at the heart of design engineering, Design Engineering Expo’s very own innovation zone is a key part of the event. See the latest solutions in action with live demonstrations of some of the most ingenious technologies and learn how they could be put into practice in your own engineering environment. Sponsored by Arrow, a global provider of technology products, services and solutions, the Innovation Zone will showcase live demonstrations of the UK’s most cutting-edge products, helping visitors discover the latest technologies that are shaping the future of British industry. Highlights include an AI (artificial intelligence) car and the world’s first VTOL (vertical take-off & landing) biplane, displayed by Coventry University’s Formula Student and UAS (unmanned aerial system) Challenge Teams, in association with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, plus an Aston Martin Formula 1 racing car simulator which uses cloud ERP from software vendor, IFS. Have a spin in the simulator for a chance to take part in the fastest lap competition, take your spot on the Top Gear style leader board and win prizes!
Network
With the involvement of global leaders in manufacturing and engineering, Design Expo 2022 is a great place to connect with like-minded design engineering professionals and forge new relationships that could you develop your operations. Key opportunities for networking will include a drinks reception on day one of the event with all delegates invited to attend.
Shaped by experts
A key ingredient in the creation of Design Engineering Expo has been the involvement of an Advisory Council of UK experts, bringing together experience from across industry, trade associations, professional bodies, government and academia to help shape a programme of radically new events.
Selected from well-known experts in their field, the Advisory Council meet regularly, chaired by Stephen Phipson CBE, CEO of Make UK.
Libby Meyrick, Chief Executive Officer of the Institution of Design Engineers, a member of the Advisory Council said: "Design doesn’t stop – it’s dynamic, forthright and exciting, and the IED is supporting the launch of the Design Engineering Expo to help showcase all of these elements and the outstanding work of the design community now and in the future."
As part of Nineteen Group’s support for diversity and promoting women in engineering, half of the Advisory board is made up of prominent women in their respective fields.
Manufacturing & Engineering Week is also supported by many other leading organisations, including: the Women’s Engineering Society – an organisation that promotes women’s education in engineering; the Institute of Export and International Trade – the professional body for importers and exporters; Napier - a B2B technology PR and marketing agency; the Institution of Mechanical Engineers; the Manufacturing Technology Centre – set up to bridge the gap between academia and industry; the Advanced Propulsion Centre – facilitates funding for low-carbon emission powertrains; High Value Manufacturing Catapult – helps new concepts become commercial; Innovate UK – a public body that promotes innovation; Made Smarter UK – helps grow manufacturing through digital technologies; and the UK government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
