In a step towards a more responsible smart card industry, specialist manufacturer of secure electronic components for smart cards, Linxens has announced that its eco-friendly recycled PET-G inlays – the 'brain' of a smart card, integrating embedded electronics – have been certified as sustainable & included in the Mastercard Sustainable Materials Directory.

Linxens, expert in the design and manufacture of microconnectors and inlays for smart cards, is pleased to announce that its eco-friendly recycled PET-G inlays, manufactured at its site in Ayutthaya, Thailand, have been certified as sustainable and included in the Mastercard Sustainable Materials Directory, an initiative to ensure sustainable vendor materials are available for all card issuers globally.

As part of the group's global policy to encourage the adoption of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions, and in response to market demand for greener products, Linxens is offering recycled PET-G inlays to reduce first-use PVC plastic in the card industry.

In addition to reducing carbon dioxide and energy consumption during the manufacturing process and reducing the use of non-recycled materials by 93%, the main environmental benefit is the elimination of chlorine. Unlike any PVC-based solution, Linxens’ recycled PET-G inlays are completely free of this halogen.

Created in 2020, Mastercard's sustainable certification programme aims to make sustainable choice the preferred option for all financial institutions worldwide and ensure that all sustainability claims associated with card products are feasible, meaningful and sincere.

"We are delighted and proud of the sustainable certification from Mastercard for our recycled PET-G inlays.

"As a long-standing and trusted partner of bank card manufacturers around the world, Linxens is committed to innovating to make the card industry more responsible, and to satisfy consumers’ desire for more eco-friendly solutions.

"Recycled PET-G is already widely used in cards in Japan, India and America, and Linxens is ready for the massive deployment of these greener solutions worldwide, in a drive to make our ecosystem more responsible and sustainable,” explains Cuong H. Duong, Linxens CEO.
