First staged in 1993, Railtex enjoys strong support from all organisations shaping the UK’s rail industry, attracting visiting managers, engineers and buyers. With a variety of CPD-certified seminars, discussion forums and keynotes highlighting industry trends, Railtex delivers insights into the developments and technologies of the fast-moving rail sector. EPDT Editor, Mark Gradwell reviews what the show has to offer for visitors…
The face of UK rail is changing, with growing demand for modern, improved systems and assets fuelling an overhaul of the country’s network. Large-scale projects, including the HS2 high-speed line, Crossrail 2 and Transport for the North’s £70bn masterplan, as well as extensive government aspirations for CP6, lead the way for market growth, and the scope for new business opportunities is huge. With an international audience visiting from over 50 countries around the globe, and hundreds of organisations exhibiting from across the full industry supply chain, this 14th International Exhibition of Railway Equipment, Systems & Services aims to provide the perfect platform for companies serving all aspects of the rail sector to demonstrate their capabilities and meet their customers.
The term ‘Digital Rail’ is fuelling discussion in the industry, as Network Rail seeks to create more capacity on an increasingly crowded network by modernising systems and adopting innovative new technologies to lead the industry into the digital age. Digital Rail will be placed under the microscope at Railtex 2019, as industry leaders and experts come together to discuss and explore the challenges and opportunities this transformation can bring.
A comprehensive programme of presentations, demonstrations and keynote addresses will be on offer at Railtex 2019, taking place at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (the NEC) from 14th to 16th May 2019.
The Birmingham Centre for Railway Research & Education (BCRRE) will present leading digital innovation and technology, as part of the DIGI-RAIL project, an ERDF-funded scheme that aims to establish a cluster of digital rail demonstrations to showcase long term innovation and support to SMEs developing digital products and services within the rail industry. BCRRE will present the DIGI-RAIL project among other research and development tools that support organisations working in the industry’s supply chain. Exhibiting alongside the Rail Alliance, the two organisations are ideally placed to provide leading support to SMEs in the manufacturing and rolling stock sectors.
A new ‘Future Focus Conference’ will also merge project management with supply chain to encourage a collaborative review of the ‘Digital Rail’ programme, through thought leadership, insight, sense testing, qualitative engagement and cross-fertilisation. With keynote speakers including Rail Minister, Andrew Jones MP, this forum will help establish what a future digital railway can look like and achieve with the support of the broad scope of industry sectors represented.
Kirsten Whitehouse, Exhibition Manager for Railtex 2019, said: “Digital is more than just a buzzword in the rail industry, it has a huge part to play in the modernisation of our network, making journeys better and safer for customers, operators and infrastructure owners.
“At Railtex 2019, we’ll be providing an array of presentations, demonstrations and discussions to help suppliers and railway managers understand and discover how digital technology is transforming the sector. The scope for opportunities is huge and Railtex is the perfect platform to discover them, bringing the biggest names in rail under one roof to share knowledge and do business.”
With a jam-packed programme of CPD-certified events, Railtex 2019 is the industry’s ideal meeting place for companies serving all aspects of the rail industry to demonstrate their capabilities and meet their future customers.
