IET forges links with China
09 June 2008
Zhang Yanmin, General Secretary of CMES (the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society), recently met Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Chief Executive, Robin McGill to discuss ways of future co-operation between the two engineering organisations.
The IET is an organisation working to develop science, engineering and technology and has been involved in taking CMES members through professional registration for the CEng and IEng qualifications.
CMES is a key member of CAST (the Chinese Association of Science and Technology) with which the IET has a strong relationship. McGill stated: “The IET is working on the development of an agreement with CAST which will coincide with the official opening of their new headquarters later this year. We want to build upon our initial relationships with CMES and CAST as we recognise the importance of China in developing our position as the foremost learned society for science, engineering and technology.”
The CMES and the IET have also collaborated in organising conferences and a CMES international conference is due to be held in Kunming, China, in March 2009. Before this, there will be a workshop in Beijing to identify areas where the organisations can work together.
