Low-Cost SpeedUp Pad Ice is First Android 4.0 Tablet Available in Indonesia.

MIPS Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital home, networking and mobile applications, has announced that it teamed with SpeedUp, a brand of PT MLW Telecom, and MIPS licensee Ingenic Semiconductor, to rapidly bring Ingenics MIPS-Based Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet to the Indonesia market.

The SpeedUp Pad Ice, introduced by MLW Telecom, is the first Android 4.0 tablet in Indonesia, and features broadband service from Telkom Indonesia.

The SpeedUp Pad Ice will be available in a broad range of retail shops and tradeshows across Indonesia. It will be available for the promotional price of Rp. 299,000 (approximately US$33) with a six-month contract of broadband services, which includes free hot spot connectivity at more than 3,000 locations in Indonesia. In addition, Gamelofts cutting-edge video game Spider-Man: Total Mayhem will be embedded on the devices.

The SpeedUp Pad Ice is powered by Ingenics JZ4770 mobile applications processor, which leverages a MIPS-Based XBurst? CPU running at 1GHz. The XBurst processors power-efficient architecture provides extended battery life - the tablet draws less than 400mA during active web browsing. The tablet features a white color design and a 7in capacitive multi-touch screen. It includes support for WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, USB 2.0 and microSD (up to 32GB), and is 3G USB dongle/modem ready. It includes 3D graphics with the Vivante GC860 GPU, a hardware 1080p video decoder and 8GB of internal flash storage.

"Just two months after the introduction of the world's first Android 4.0 tablet, we are pleased to bring that same MIPS-based tablet design from Ingenic to consumers in Indonesia. It was very easy to work with Ingenic Semiconductor and MIPS Technologies, resulting in extremely fast time-to-market for this tablet that offers great features bundled with broadband service at an affordable price point," said Rahmad Widjaja Sakti, Vice President of product and marketing, MLW Telecom.

"Through SpeedUp, the same performance-efficient design that we recently introduced in China is now proliferating into the Indonesia market. With its high performance, ultra-low power consumption and low-cost bill of materials, this tablet design is ideal for emerging and rapidly growing markets, and will help drive mainstream adoption of Android tablets across the world," said Qiang Liu, Chairman and CEO, Ingenic Semiconductor.

"It is a testament to the elegance of the MIPS architecture, Ingenics processor design expertise, and the flexibility of our combined business models that we were able to help SpeedUp bring this innovative tablet to market so rapidly. SpeedUp was quick to recognize the possibilities of offering this MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablet to the rapidly growing consumer market in Indonesia, and its customers can now benefit from this insight," said Gideon Intrater, Vice President of Marketing, MIPS Technologies.

"The market for consumer mobile devices is growing rapidly in Indonesia, driven by increasingly affordable products, expanded brand and model choices, and a highly competitive mobile broadband landscape," says Jeff Orr, Group Director consumer research, ABI Research. "The availability of low-cost media tablet solutions is a boon for Indonesian citizens. Pair this with some of the world's most affordable mobile broadband tariffs and the value proposition for mobile consumer devices in Indonesia is very compelling."
