ACE KISS103 Selective soldering at CTP

13 December 2010

After careful assessment, CTP has invested in a state of the art KISS 103 selective soldering machine and a nitrogen generator for oxygen free environment.

This machine offers many benefits over hand soldering. It is more productive, more repeatable and allows amazing solder flow through improvements compared to even the best hand soldering tools and techniques.

A short trial carried out for a potential customer proved that even with a thick multi-layer PCB, flow through to meet IPC A 610 class 3 standards are possible.

The main advantage will be for PCB assemblies which normally require a lot of masked areas for wave solder,. It also avoids the need for special wave solder tooling and the associated cost and delay. Doubled sided SMT assemblies with through hole components can often be assembled and soldered within the same process time and a PCB of upto 450x600 mm can be accommodated.

The 'wasted' cost of masking PCBs is now a thing of the past at CTP, since the introduction of this machine, having previously removed masking needed for conformal coating by purchase of a PVA selective coating machine last year.
