Newbury Innovation announces sponsorship of Team Bath Racing Electric
29 October 2018
Newbury Innovation has taken its support of the electronics students at Bath University to a new level – by agreeing to become a Gold-level sponsor for this year's Team Bath Racing Electric team.
Such an agreement gives the student engineering team access to all the printed circuit boards that they may require, as well as an open door to Newbury's design facilities.
Said Jon Hawkins, technical director at Newbury Innovation: "Being involved with TBRe [Team Bath Racing Electric] brings undoubted benefits for both us and the student team. We get to work with some of the best young electrical engineers and learn with them, whilst they gain a far better understanding of what is really required in a commercial design and production environment.
“Supporting their personal development whilst watching them encounter and overcome real engineering challenges, through the course of the programme, is very rewarding." Jon will also deliver a series of guest lectures to the team, the first of which covers electrical and mechanical interfaces and takes place in early November.
"We are delighted that we have been able to secure the support of Jon and his team at Newbury Innovation. Having a relationship with industry not only helps us with the challenges we face developing and building the electric racing car, but it is also incredibly valuable to us in preparing us for our future careers," said Afkar Ansar, business manager of TBRe.
As Jon continues: "If industry wants the best possible engineers, then it must play its part in helping them develop. What better way is there of showing that support than to be part of this exciting development programme?
“Last year's car was great and we look forward to supporting the endeavours of the 2018/19 team."
Other benefits to Newbury Innovation relate to their branding on the car, the pit boards and team shirts, as well as laboratory and online promotional opportunities.
TBRe is a young, exciting and innovative student motorsport team based at the University of Bath. Each year, TBRe designs, builds and tests a single-seat, open-wheel race car to compete on an international stage at Silverstone at the renowned Formula Student competition.
Unlike many competitors, TBRe utilises a fully-electric powertrain. For Newbury Innovation, this is crucial to not only allow a level of mechanical and electrical innovation – unachievable by traditional cars – but also to stay relevant in an industry that is shifting irreversibly toward electric vehicles.
