Drones are transforming our interaction with the oceans

With the increase in drone technology – and the diversifying scope of the industry – comes stronger potential to explore our oceans than ever before.
For millennia, human interaction with the world’s oceans has been one of great contrast. On the one hand, this relationship has been built on reliance, with great dependence placed on these waters for food and commerce.
On the other, interaction has been defined by mystery and intrigue, with as much as 95 percent of the world's oceans and 99 percent of the ocean floor remaining unexplored according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Drone technology now has the power to change human interaction with the oceans forever, revolutionising exploration, conservation, fishing and security to secure the fruits of the oceans for generations to come.
Providing testament to the power of the oceans, moreover, was World Oceans Day, which took place on Friday 8th June and celebrated the world’s waters, raising awareness of the negative human impact upon them. Much has been made of the upsurge in plastic pollution that is threatening the most fragile of ecosystems, with drones leading the fight against this scourge.
Commenting on the transformative impact of drones for the world’s oceans, Robert Garbett, CEO of Drone Major Group, said: “As the world focuses on the importance of caring for our oceans, like opening a can of worms, we are faced with an increasing number of problems to solve. The evolution of technology in the drone industry is now gathering pace to answer the calls for solutions to complex problems, such as those which exist across the vastness of the world’s oceans.”
