Viva Las APEX!

There are not too many events any more that demand global attention, but APEX is certainly one of them, and now the big day when it opens its doors in Las Vegas is only a week away. So, when the chips are down, is it worth the visit?

The answer has to be, if you can make it, yes - it is worth the trip. The unique circumstances under which APEX came about – effectively the industry suppliers turning their backs on Nepcon West when they didn’t think it was doing a good job for the electronics industry – has created a legacy that ensures that APEX gets top billing in the event calendar.

In fact such was the trauma of the industry collectively turning its back on Nepcon West, that it created a unity and will to succeed amongst the suppliers, that in many respects it punches far above its weight. There are many other shows around the world that attract more exhibitors and more visitors, and you could argue that APEX principally serves only the North American market and is therefore a regional event.

But I think that diminishes the value of APEX. Having an event with such a huge level of support from both the suppliers in industry and the IPC has resulted in a true industry event, not just an exhibition. In our newsletter this week there is information about professional development programmes; the EMS and PCB meetings; the conference; and the technology centre. On top of this there are plenty more highlights, all of which you can find on the IPC web site .

With so much on offer, not to mention the debatable attractions of Las Vegas itself, APEX really has got something for everyone this year. And its still not too late to go and learn, and see, and enjoy. So why not?
